Lorna used to an RSPCA inspector until she was made redundant during the Covid-19 pandemic. For Lorna, being her own boss where she can still work with animals has been a dream come true.

Why did you choose a franchise over setting up your own business?

I wanted to have the support of a network of people to help me grow my business and I felt the brand of we love pets was strong and would put me above the independent walkers. Also I’ve never run a business and would struggle with that side of things.

What did the word ‘franchise’ mean to you before you came across We Love Pets?

I thought it was where you bought a part of a business but then you were on your own so I was very surprised with how much support I’ve received from We Love Pets.

How have We Love Pets made sure you’re the right person to carry the award-winning brand forward?

From my previous experience as an RSPCA Inspector and my references also the many hours I spent talking to Ryan and my local branch Caragh.

Do you have any pets of your own?

I have two dogs a Lurcher called Rupert and a Staffie x Border terrier called Chop.

What do you love most about Wigan?

I was born and grew up in the Wigan area so it’s my home town where all my family and friends are. To me it’s my community where I am loved and supported so it fits perfect for my business to be here.

What have you done in the past that you think will help you in your new venture?

I was an RSPCA Inspector for 14 years so I worked with many dogs, cats, small domestics and exotics. I’m also in year 3 of a canine behaviour degree. As an inspector, I’ve spent most days doing social work with a variety of cultures and social issues so I feel this will help when speaking to clients from many backgrounds.

What does running a business like this mean to you?

It is the ultimate goal to have my own successful business where I can be my own boss. I’ve wanted to do this for many years and saw the perfect opportunity after being made redundant.

My little rescue dog Django lives with me and my family in Suffolk where he has the big open countryside to explore. It is my dream to one day own a coop of chickens and have my little girl collect their eggs just as I did when I was small. I have always loved animals and have had a variety of pets from fish and hamsters to cats, dogs and chickens over the years. I am the Content Manager at We Love Pets and my favourite thing to write about is how to be a better pet owner with handy tips and education from the animal world.
