Rachel used to work with one of the biggest pet food brands in the business. Now she’s bringing her knowledge and experience to We Love Pets to help our customers understand their animals better.
Why did you choose a franchise over setting up your own business?
I was attracted to a franchise because I wanted to be working in a team that is like a big family. Franchises offers help and support that you won’t get if you go it alone.
What did the word ‘franchise’ mean to you before you came across We Love Pets?
I used to think it meant big company with lots of money and no help, but I was very wrong about all of it. I just have to pick up the phone and someone is there to help.
How have We Love Pets made sure you’re the right person to carry the award-winning brand forward?
I think that they can see I am hard working and love working with animals. I am passionate about helping people and spending time outdoors so the life of a We Love Pets franchisee really suits me.
Do you have any pets of your own?
Oh yes! I have a 3 year-old black Labrador and a 7 year-old Yorkshire Terrier who I just love to bits.
What do you love most about Oakham?
Probably that it’s a small, tight-knit community – everybody knows everybody and we help each other out so it’s really quite nice and friendly.
What have you done in the past that you think will help you in your new venture?
For the last 9 years I have been working for a large pet food company where I was walking dogs and helping with research for food for the animals. I have also spent 6 years in the horse industry in racing, show jumping and eventing yards. I have NVQ in animal care too!
What does running a business like this mean to you?
Having people place their trust in you to look after their animals while they are away or at work is a very special and responsible position to have. That’s very rewarding.
