Shrove Tuesday falls on the 21st of February, it is the day when we get to celebrate and indulge in the delicious sweet or savory treats! But we humans are not the ones in this world that love Pancakes, our dogs do too!
What is Shrove Tuesday?
Shrove Tuesday marks the last day before Lent, traditionally a period of abstinence, associated with clearing your cupboards of goods such as sugar, fats and eggs. Traditionally, pancakes were eaten on this day to use up these foods before the 40-day fasting season of Lent began.

Berry filled Pancakes
What you will need:
- 200 g buckwheat flour
- 500 ml milk
- 2 medium-sized eggs
- 1 tsp vegetable oil
- 100g blueberries / strawberries / raspberries
Instructions:
- Measure out the flour, then pour into a mixing bowl; you don’t need to sieve buckwheat as it’s usually a very fine-textured flour!
- In a second mixing bowl, whisk up the two eggs and whisk in the milk. Using a spatula or wooden spoon, lightly push the flour to the sides of the bowl to make a small well in the centre. Pour in the milk and beaten eggs into the well. Whisk together by hand until the mixture is well blended and smooth, then place the bowl into the fridge for 15 minutes.
- While the batter mixture is resting you can prepare the fillings. Chop or blend your berries and stir them together in a small mixing bowl.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan, then pour enough batter into the pan to coat the bottom. Cook for about 30 seconds, then flip the pancake over and cook for a further minute or so.
- Spoon out the berry mixture and spread it in the centre of the pancake. Roll up the pancake while it’s in the pan so the filling heats up. Cut into chunks to serve.
