Top tips for settling your rescue dog into their new home

by Sam O’Connor, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home

Don’t expect too much too soon

Changing environments can often cause a dog to feel a little stressed & overwhelmed and it is important to allow the dog to settle in at its own pace.

Start as you mean to go on

Sit & discuss as a family what the new dog is going to be allowed & not allowed to do – such as getting on the sofa, being allowed in bedrooms, etc.

Too many behaviour & training problems stem from inconsistency in the home and can be easily avoided with all members of the household treating the dog in the same way.
